I also realized it was time to try to weave together two of my joint interests, art and science/medicine, and discover how they connect with each other. My parents were each explorers in their own ways—my father, mountains, my mother, designing and sewing her and our clothing. My interest in exploration these days especially comes out in my painting, and I found the universe to be a spectacular topic for exploration. Breadth of perspective seemed increasingly crucial to me as I tried to look deeply at us and our tiny planet.

As I began to explore the science of the universe, I was repeatedly astonished by its immensity, strangeness and mystery. Some of my musings on paper regarding this can be seen in the works on paper.
